RCPitbox Team Hit the Dirt - Nitroxcross Swansea

Posted by Jules exall on

The Bank Holiday weekend saw five of the RC Pitbox racing team venture to the Pembrey Race Circuit in South Wales for Rounds 13 and 14 of the Nitro X Summer Series (held by the Swansea and District Model Car club).

The track is a newly constructed majority dirt track with astro jump profiles and straight, a flowing layout, with some good features, a track for the future and a credit to all the Swansea club, who were racing on a grass track at the same site last year. The track is based at the Pembrey Race Circuit and if your lucky enough to race RC on a show day you get to enjoy some 1/1 racing on the Circuit in your down time, onsite bar/restaurant and decent facilities, i see this venue having a very bright future.

In Nitro, RC Pitbox was represented by four drivers:  Alex Page, Andy Prosser, Ben Billing and Matt Box.

For Round 13, both Alex and Ben made the A final – Ben finishing an excellent second with his great looking MBX7r powered by Bullitt B-220 and Proline Rubber. A fantastic Drive by Ben in a very competative A-final, only losing out to Local Ben Williams.

Alex and his MBX7r finished a respectable 11th (after racing half the race without a front tyre).  Matt finished 5th in the B with Andy 5th in the E, both driving the Radiosistemi RR8.

Over night the rain came, and at 6.30am the track was a wash out, after 3hours of hard graft by the Swansea boys the track was fit for racing again. Well done Boyo's! Shout out to Steve Guppy, Ian Ford, Gavin Powell and all the others mentioned or not that helped keep the racing on - great work!

With racing back on it was time for round 14, and this saw 3 bump ups by the team in Nitro class.

Andy finished 2nd in the D final to bump up to the C, finishing a very good 8th, after getting to grips with the conditions and showing how good the RR8 looks on dirt. Great drive Andy!

Alex finished 2nd in the B final, eventually finishing 9th in the A and Matt finished 3rd in the B final, finishing 11th in the A.  Ben took 6th in the A final. All of the guys in the A-final thoroughly enjoying a good weekend of close dirt racing with some good close and fair racing, just like it should be.

Chris Lovell was the sole RC Pitbox representative in the eBuggy class.  Using his Tekin/ Orion powered Kyosho MP9e he TQ’d and won both days despite some close racing with local Dave Clutterbuck and championship rival Lloyd Pitt. It looks like Chris has now sown up the series win with these 2 victories. His Car looking excellent as always. The Mp9e looking so balanced and controlled on the dirt and in the hands of a now very experienced e-buggy driver. Big well done to Chris, cant wait to see you drive a Nitro!

So onto the final round at coventry in a few weeks for some old school Grass racing! Well done to all the nitroxcross guys and gals for a great weekend of wheel to wheel but fun racing and a great weekend for the family at Pembrey!
