Great Start to The Season for RCPB

Posted by Jules exall on

This weekend team RCPB were out in force across the country, it was George Miler who was representing the team down at Coastal Model car club with his Sworkz 2wd 1/10th, and he continued his great form by taking 2nd in the class in quail and finishing 3rd in the final. Well done George.

At Oswestry Model Car club we had some more 1/10th action, this time in 4wd we had Chris Ely, Tommy Hall, Jamie Hall and Felix De Hamel. Felix and his Schumacher were on a roll after a great result last week at the regional in Telford, he managed a 9th in round one and a 6th overall in round 2 which gave him a fantastic overall of 10th after qualifying. A great bit of driving from the young man in his Qualifying in a very tough and competitive field! Jamie and Tommy both running Xray also had some stunning runs and ended up 17th and 19th respectively. Chris also running his XB was 27th overall after quail.

In the Finals, Felix had managed the A and finished a superb 8th, amazing result, Tommy and Jamie made the B final and also finished a fantastic 2nd and 5th. The youngsters showing Team Boss Chris Ely how it’s done, with Chris in the C final and finished 8th(despite having man flu). Great display of driving by all the 1/10th crew. But driver of the Day in 1/10th has to be Felix - his car pictured below!

At Swindon Model Car club, we had Chris Lovell and his MBX7R eco at the first round of their summer series and in a mixed field of nitro and electric he made 3rd in the A final after a tough qualifying with some very good drivers. He made the most of his good qualifying and brought the car home in 4th, great start to the series, and some great track time at next weekend’s NitroXCross Venue!

The majority of the RCPB 1/8th Crew were at Deerdale for the first Nitro national of the year. The bumpy, uneven, tricky track made for some mixed qualifying for the Team. Milan Dragojlovic and his Kyosho MP9 TKi3 had some problems in the early rounds but pulled it back with an amazing 13th in round 5, showing the pace was there, he qualified 3rd in the ¼ finals B side, Kong McKenzie also had a great days quali' and got himself to 10th in the 1/4A side with his RC Concept Powered Mugen MBX7R. Matt Box and Ben Billing both also had some fantastic quali runs and planted their buggies in the B 1/8ths, with Bens Sworkz just ahead of Matts MP9 on the grid - Matts car pictured below. In the 1/64A we had Gary Gregory Radiosistemi RR8 V2, Rich Price Xray and Elliot Jones Sworkz who qualified 5th, 1st and 3rd respectively, in the 1/32 A we had Alex Page who qualified 2nd with his MP9. It was going to be hectic in the finals with the team scattered in the seeding.

1st up in the finals were Gary, Rich and Elliot. They all had a great start and Rich ran out into the lead from his pole, holding firm until the buzzer taking the win and the bump up. Gary also managed a steady star and with some impressive overtaking managed to get to 3rd and a bump, Elliot in his first national was no slouch either, he battled for the bump, eventually just missing out finishing 5th after the 20 mins.

Alex was up next, taking 2nd on the grid and with a fantastic bit of driving easily took first where he finished, taking another bump up for the team. Rich and Gary now in the 1/32A flew off the line, after a rather messy start by the guys high up the grid and some good fortune they saw themselves once again both battling for the bump. Gary drove his RR8 V2 extremely well, and managed another fantastic bump, ending up 3rd, and Rich just missed the 2nd bump showing his pace was good, finishing a very tidy 5th in his first national – another great debut!

It was Alex up again next in the 1/16B, another good start and great drive by Mr Page also saw him battling for a double bump, he made some great moves up the field, finally showing that the Bullett Engine had some power, blazing from 11th to finish 5th and 2 seconds off the final bump place.

Ben and Matt next and in a tough final with some very good drivers it would be a battle to the line for the pair of them. Matt and his Lelasi tuned engine were on fire, and quickly progressed up the field as did Ben and his Sworkz/Nova combo, both having a great drive in the final, Ben managed a fine drive to take 2nd and Matt after some great fortune took the last bump from a driver who cut yards before the line. Both making it to the ¼’s in style! They bumped into the same final that Milan was in so it would be all hands on deck for the top boys. Kong also had an eventful final, making good headway showing the real power of the RC Concepts which was great all weekend, he unfortunatly had to retire due to a radio issue but a semi is on the cards soon for him and his Mugen Buggy! His car pictured below ready for his final.

Milan flew just like in his last round of qualifying, his Ninja not missing a beat, and he easily progressed to the semis and stood a good chance of progression to the Main if his pace was anything to go by. He took the win by 5seconds. Ben and Matt both had some bad luck and although they both battled in the midfield, Matt had to retire and Ben finished the race with 3 shocks, but none the less a great bit of racing from both guys to bring home 11th and 12th, both one stopping and both showing their is definably more to come this year!

Milan raced very well in his semi, making great progress through the field and for a lot of the time racing in a bump up place. An unfortunate lap meant he dropped back but he battled hard and still managed to 10th. A great end to a great weekend of racing for the Nitro guys! Well done to them all bring on the next round on the Dirt of Kent.......

RCPB will be trackside for the 1st round of the summer NitroXcross series at Swindon Model Car club next weekend. As usual all of the kit/cars/fuel and engines that the guys used above is available through the website but if you can’t find what you’re looking for please get in touch.
